The Cornerstone of Math
Make Math Easier

Does your child get frustrated with math? Do they understand the concepts but make careless mistakes—or spend forever counting on their fingers? The missing piece is often math facts mastery.
Math facts (basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) are the cornerstone of mathematics. Without them, students struggle with higher-level math, even when they understand the process.
Unfortunately, the way math facts are traditionally taught isn’t always effective. Let’s take a look at what doesn’t work—and what does.
Common (But Ineffective) Ways We Teach Math Facts
Flashcards – Expecting kids to instantly recall facts that aren’t yet stored in memory is frustrating and discouraging.
Math Families – Grouping by “the threes” or “the fours” doesn’t prepare children for the random recall needed in real math problems.
Speed Drills – Timed tests trigger stress and anxiety, shutting down access to what the child actually knows.
Computer Games – While fun and fast-paced, these still demand output before the information is solidly in the brain.
All of these methods rely too heavily on output—trying to pull information out of a child’s brain before it’s been securely stored.
The Neurodevelopmental Approach: Input First
At Little Giant Steps, we use a different approach based on how the brain actually learns—through frequency, intensity, and duration. Children need:
Frequent exposure to math facts,
Intense focus (all senses engaged), and
Short, repeated sessions over time to lock them into long-term memory.
That’s why we developed the Rapid Recall System.
How Rapid Recall Works
Children see, hear, say, and write five math facts multiple times a day.
Most of the activity is input—information going in.
By the end of the week, students have had 60+ exposures to the correct facts.
The result? Even reluctant learners start to succeed. Teachers and parents report kids asking for more math because they finally feel confident and capable.
Why It Matters
✔ Saves time in math lessons—no more finger-counting.
✔ Builds confidence and reduces frustration.
✔ Helps older students (even teens) who “get the math” but keep missing answers because of weak fact recall.
✔ Supports any math curriculum.
When children know their math facts, everything else becomes easier—from long division to algebra.
Next Step for Parents
If your child struggles with math facts, you don’t have to rely on outdated drills or stressful tests. The Rapid Recall System provides a proven, brain-friendly way to master math facts quickly and painlessly.
